Congratulations to our first graduating class of Oncology Data Management (ODM) specialists! On Thursday, March 30, nThrive leadership, colleagues, Governor of Vermont, state representatives, past program alum and families celebrated the graduation and onboarding of nine ODM Specialists, who were hired by our company and began an intensive pre-apprenticeship program in November 2016. ODM Specialists are responsible for clinical data abstraction and maintaining databases on cancer patients. This information is utilized by health care professionals for studies and research to identify new treatment methods, improve patient outcomes and find the cure for cancer.
The ODM training and apprentice program is actually a collaboration of efforts between nThrive and Vermont HITEC, a not-for-profit education center. Under the program, unemployed and underemployed residents are hired and trained to perform crucial jobs. Partial funding is provided by the US Department of Labor, Vermont Department of Labor and Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development. This is the third collaborative program that nThrive has offered with Vermont HITEC in two years; the first two programs resulted in employment of 33 Vermont residents becoming medical coders.
While the students have been employed by nThrive since January 2017, graduation marks the continuation of their one-year apprenticeship and mentoring with the company. Expanding this partnership program into the field of oncology data management is an opportunity for nThrive to realize our mission to “help build strong, healthy communities” through the provision of meaningful careers for residents.
nThrive values this program for the opportunities it provides capable people, and for the excellent colleagues we onboard who have been trained by our company for our company and our clients. We are confident we will continue to train more Vermont residents to fill vital roles in our organization for the health care industry.
